- Abstract
- en_US This book brings together texts and scissorcut illustrations from Lini Grol, who is pictured on the last page. I tried the first two stories. They dig into life. I believe that they are expanded fables. In the first, three ants leave the colony for a holiday and are welcomed exuberantly to a picnic in their honor. When they return a second time to stay, they get a cold reception and more work than they had at home. Chagrined, they return home humbly, only to be welcomed back. They never think of running away again. In the second story, a humble house-snail meets an arrogant locust who has traveled the world. She looks up to him and admires his breadth of experience. His advice to her is to get rid of her house and travel, but she cannot conceive of living apart from her home! The next day, she runs into the locust, but now he is battered and wounded. A bird had come after him! As he is lamenting and wondering where he can recuperate, another bird attacks, and that is the last that the happy house-snail sees of that locust.
