- Abstract
- en_US This small (3½" x 5¾") edition from around 1860 has several claims to some fame. It is apparently a rare edition coming out of Dole. It has three of the hardest to find illustrations in my career of searching books! "Acorn and Pumpkin" on 292 seems to be strongly after Grandville. The other two are "Fox, Flies, and Hedgehog" on 390 and "Crow, Gazelle, Turtle, and Rat" on 392. Each of these plates includes its page number! I am not sure I have seen that before! It seems strange to have only three illustrations and to put two of them back-to-back. There is an AI at the end of 486 pages. The title-page is completely engraved: a medallion of La Fontaine, surrounded by four animal heads.
