- Abstract
- en_US This poor and wonderful book was in such wretched condition that I went onto the web to find another copy. I found the most recent reprinting from 2011 but was disappointed in its renderings of the excellent black-and-white illustrations of Jeanne d'Atray. Particularly good, I believe, are the illustrations of WL (28); WC (52); and LS (58). As I comment about the reprinting, the La Fontaine texts have themselves undergone conversion. I can mostly follow them; when it comes to the Creole, I am mostly lost! There are extensive notes on each fable at the back of the book. "Cric? Crac!" apparently translates in English into "Click!" It looks as though some significant water damage harmed the binding and corrupted some of the cover. I believe that the spine and back cover were recreated. What a lovely chance find! 31 fables. Not in Bodemann.
