- Abstract
- en_US This unpaginated book for children has about ten pages for each of the thirteen stories listed on its last page. Almost all are easily recognizable traditional fables, starting with GA and "The Cobbler and the Banker." The stories are here expanded into prose stories with colorful illustrations like those created by very small children. These illustrations have simple contrasts that fit with the fables' conflicts, like the contrasting faces of cobbler and banker. Costuming is attractive but sometimes outlandish, as in the case of the fox in FG. The stuck wagon-driver prays to Atlas. The tortoise in TT is apparently carried by four ducks, and the carrying apparatus is more complex than in most traditional tellings. The book has a musty smell all its own.
