- Abstract
- en_US Here is a curious textbook from a few years before the French Revolution. In it, the whole curriculum is laid out for the seven years prior to graduation. One can see on 50-54 the portion of that curriculum devoted to "Livres Classiques." This volume fits in as one of four for the second of the seven years. After introducing the curriculum, the book turns to a set of considerations concerning the "apologue.": its definition, qualities, form, and style. There is then a presentation on the qualities of Aesop, Phaedrus, and La Fontaine. On 120, we arrive at texts of La Fontaine's fables, moving through selections from the twelve books as well as "Philemon and Baucis." The closing T of C gives pages first for questions relevant to fables and then for texts of La Fontaine's fables.
