Abstract

Here is a typical print-upon-demand book, with print jammed from the top of the page to the bottom. The original was by Dana Estes in Boston in 1904. Aesop is covered on 9-18 of this edition, 3-18 of the original. There follow ten pages of "Hindoo Fables." Then come "stories for Children," including "The Peasant and the Cucumbers" (40 in the original). Then the stories grow longer. The book is valuable as a source for examining what Tolstoy took from Aesop and what he did with it. See above for the original edition.
