Here is a -- to me! -- new fabulist! The titles of the 37 fables here give clues to their predictable moralizing. From the little I have read, I gather that cleanliness is for Aveling high virtue. A sample fable might be "Hope and Haste" (132-38). Most of the titles present twosomes like these two. The verse of these fables is characterized by forced rhymes and poetic word order. My little sample suggested to me why I had not learned of Aveling previously.
