Abstract

This book belongs to the " The Prose and Poetry Series" from which we already have "Story Wagon." It contains three fables: "Fox and Crab" (44); TMCM (100); and "Mr. Bear's Tricks" (136). TMCM is presented as a story that can be acted out. "The Monkey and the Turtle" (122) has a fable twist to it: the monkey gets the turtle up the tree but did not promise to get him down again. In "Mr. Bear's Tricks," the bear twice outsmarts the coyote by taking the portion under ground of the potatoes but the portion above ground of the corn. Both black-and-white and colored cartoons help this children's reader.
