Abstract

This large-format (8½" x 11¾") book with 68 pages and board covers has a good deal in common with other Jourcin books and other Bias publications. As in a 1953 edition by both, the title-page, signed by Jourcin, has a fox, hare, and frog holding up a sign "Nombreuses Illustrations." As there, texts are framed by border strips, sometimes monochrome, duochrome, or with several colors. Full-page colored illustrations and two-color illustrations both appear. So do black-and-white illustrations, like two for TH (14-15). "Le Cochon, la Chèvre et le Mouton" ends starkly with a two-color illustration of a ham and some sausages. Some of Jourcin's most often repeated colored images appear here as full-page illustrations with no printing on the verso: FS (3); "The Wolf Become a Shepherd" (9); "The Fox and the Goat" (21); OF (27); "The Pig, The Goat, and the Lamb" (35); GA (45); "The Rabbit's Ears" (53); "The Horse and the Ass" (63). The printer is Fournier in Paris. The back cover has the number 5.551.
