Abstract

en_US
This is a substantial resource. Each chapter seems to have a section entitled "Theme." The theme for the second chapter, "The Birth of Printing," is "Fables" (72-78). This segment offers a fine introduction to the published fable tradition. The first two pages offer illustrations from del Tuppo, Faerno, Gheeraerts, Cleyn, Oudry, Bewick, and Grandville. Worthy company! Subsequent pages go on to illustrate Hollar, Le Clerc, Oudry, and Griset. There are surely many more treasures to be found and enjoyed here, but that is a good start!
