Abstract

I admit that I went through the full cataloguing process with this book before I realized that we already had a copy. However, this copy has three differences from that copy. First, it did not belong to a library, and thus it does not have a catalogue number taped to the bottom of its spine. Secondly, its IBSN number is not a seal taped over the verso of the title-page; it is printed as part of the page. Thirdly, it lacks the "errata" slip pasted in after the AI at the end of the book. It is hard for me to conclude which copy is older, but the question presents itself. My write-up of the book is slightly different this time, and I will keep it. The three key areas of this book are watercolors (25) books (143), and tapestries (157). The "Apresentação" seems to be more about museum theory than about this show. This gathering of watercolors is quite amazing! I would love to learn more about how they came together. The first pictures the shepherd who lost everything at sea as being beckoned by a beautiful woman in the water (29). Also strong is Jules-Elie Delaunay's "Pedant and Drowning Boy" (33). Another prize goes to Henri Gervex for GA on 63: the young musician approaches the warmly clad woman as she is about to get into a horse-drawn cab. Jacquemart brings out the humor in "Donkey and Lapdog" (77) by staging it at a picnic. Lamy's "The Curé and the Deceased" (85). Palizzi (105) makes a dramatic scene out of "Mother Goat, Young Goat, and Wolf." The tapestries are all on benches or chairs. I am so happy to have found this book! 174 pages. 7¾" x 9½".
