The title-page continues "Für den Schulgebrauch ausgewählt." The reference on the title page to "Die Deutsche Arbeitsfront" suggests a date between about 1938 and 1945. The Katalog der Deutschen Nationalbibliothek lists this pamphlet as published in 1950. I cannot understand that viewpoint. The only illustration in this 32 page pamphlet is the design on the title-page of a fox blowing bubbles for a lion family. Since this is Volume I, I will keep my eye out for Volume II. The back cover lists perhaps 140 titles in the series. Fables in this volume are indeed restricted to German writers. A beginning index is arranged alphabetically by author. The authors are Boner, Bürger, Gellert, Gleim, Goethe, Grimm, Güll, Hagedorn, Hoffmann von Fallersleben, Langbein, Lessing, Lichtwer, Luther, Pfeffel, von Pocci, Ramler, Rückert, Seidel, Simrod, Steinhöwel, Sturm, and Zachariä.
