Abstract

Online resources date this book to a guess of 1990. I am suspicious because of the mention of Leipzig in the colophon at the rear of the book. Might it have been much earlier, say in 1964? This looks to me like a DDR book. I have known Hegenbarth's work before and enjoyed it. In fact, this is our ninth book by Hegenbarth. Amonn the best of his illustrations here are the scene in the priest's granary (41); the grand gathering (106); and "The Ass and the Lapdog" (158). Several fables are gathered on 160-61. Overall, there are 117 illustrations. By the way, the front cover is more riotous than the dust-jacket covering it! 208 pages. 6½" x 10".
