This is a sturdy children's book of fables. As its beginning T of C shows, it has some 155 fables on 276 pages. The end of the introduction offers a curious comment: "The classic thing about 'Aesop's Fables' is that different readers in different eras can read profound meanings from it, which is worth pondering for a long time!" I find the colored illustrations, almost all partial-page, stylized but lively, starting from the front cover's TMCM. Among the best of the illustrations are these: FG (35); GGE (40); MSA (42); FS (47); "Swallow in Spring" (62); Androcles (167); "Weasel and Ticks" (201); and DS (246). 6¾ x 8½.
