Abstract

From an original titled Fables Choisies. First published in 1974. This book of 120 pages has four pages of T of C at its back. The Pagine d'Oro series may be marked either by the gilt page-edges or by the four full-page colored pages framed in gold. They are TH (16), BC (32), TT (96), and The Mouse, the Rooster, and the Cat (112). Almost every story has a half-page black-and-white illustration. Sometimes, as in DW (28-29), these are doubled. A good example of their highly expressive character is the cat on 76 seizing two unwary younger mice. Another is the title-page's rendition of 99's mouse for The Mouse and the Oyster. The book is unusual for having several blank pages between stories. The dust-jacket has a strip ingeniously matching the strip on the end-papers.
