Abstract

There are eight pages inside heavier-stock covers on this 8" x 11" pamphlet found by chance in Second Story's warehouse. It is one of four books published in a series projected to include eight. The text is in rhyming verse. There seem to be no other frogs in sight. By the third of the double-pages at the center of the book, the frog is expanding. The final page's illustration, replicated on the cover, is confusing. The frog seems to be breathing out his last from his mouth as he lies in a contorted position. If he indeed exploded, it is not clear in the illustration. The moral is eight lines long. The back cover includes a large and happy menagerie apparently drawn from all eight of the fables. The frog is jumping on the ox's horns in this general illustration of characters. Attempts to find a date or other members of the series online yielded only one helpful result: another member of the series was sold previously on abe. In this collection, this one copy may have to represent the whole series.
