Abstract

This book of 37 fables has two very positive features: the coloring of Caxton's (primitive) woodcuts and the faithful rendition of his text with modern spelling and orthography. Different: the ox also steps on the expanding frog, and the boy bites off his mother's nose. The moral of 2W is different: If you are old, do not marry again! The Widow of Ephesus is included. There are nice partial images interspersed with the text in addition to the woodcuts. For sale in U.K. only
