Abstract: en_US The text is identical with that in Foulsham's 1945? edition with the same title. See my comments there. This edition adds five colored illustrations, several of which occur rarely: Aesop plays with the Children (frontispiece), The Boy and the Thief (33), and The Porcupine and the Serpents (96). I find The Fox and the Mask illustration (48) particularly successful. The story of The Boy and the Thief (22) misses the ironic turn found elsewhere. The boy is at first perplexed: how will he defend himself against the approaching thief? Then the idea occurs to him to outfox the fox.... This edition adds lists of the two kinds of illustrations. This good copy has 13E at the bottom of the back of the title-page, while the extra copy has 15E. In this good copy, a strip at the top has been cut out to remove an owner's name.
