Abstract

This sixteen-page pamphlet had first been published in 1961 by the East African Literature Bureau. Oxfoird University Press East Africa picked it up in 1963 and reprinted it every year for the next three years. There are three stories here. The designs suggest some very fable-like activity. For example, the lion swallows the snake and becomes sick. Does the wise hare send a mouse past the lion to attract the snake's pursuit? I wish I could decipher more of what is going on! The translation of the title--Hare Is a Rascal--comes from the back cover.
