Abstract

Here is an extremely simple version of the Andersen story of the proud emperor. It has only three scenes. In the first, the two swindlers present cloth that "can be seen only by those who are very smart!" In the second, the emperor visits their workshop and praises the non-existent cloth. In the third, the emperor walks in his underwear. When a child says that he is not wearing any clothes, this emperor blushes and says "Why, the child is right! I've been swindled!" Though short, this is an effective and sensible telling of the story.
