Abstract

"A Vittorio Sanguinetti il Giorno delle sue Nozze colla Signorina Elena Ghiron." Now this seems unusual in this collection. I gather that Domenico Guerrini has translated into Italian these nineteen fables and then printed them up in this 34-page booklet, tied with a nice ribbon through the spine, as a gift to Vittorio Sanguinetti on his wedding day. That I have not seen before! The first thing one finds upon opening the booklet is a message to Sanguinetti which concludes this way: "Now enjoy your new happiness, keep in mind the good intention and leave the booklet closed. You will then open it when a crown of beautiful and good little children will jump around you. asking for a gay fairy tale. However much I tried, I couldn't find a better wish than this." Indeed! The fables start with old standards, like GA, FC, "Two Mules," and TMCM. No illustrations. What a strange and wonderful find! Guerrini is well known enough to make it into Italian Wikipedia. Neither of the spouses made it into Wikipedia, but I hope that their children got to love fables like these!
