Abstract: en_US The first helpful thing about this book is the Brookes introduction. In it one learns something of the publishing history, including the facts that by 1918 nine Uncle Remus books had appeared and that the delightfull Frost illustrations used here first appeared in the second edition (1895) of the first Uncle Remus book originally published as a book in 1880 (the title page gives 1881). Apparently all thirty-four of the stories given here, as well as the Plantation Proverbs and songs, come from that book. This version thus naturally uses the heavy dialect that Harris did. Page 137 has become detached from the glue-binding.
