Abstract

This work was commissioned by the University of Tennessee at Martin for the dedication of its Fine Arts Building. It was first performed on May 21, 1971. The bottom of the first page of the first piece shows a copyright of 1974 by Boosey & Hawkes. The five pieces present Marianne Moore's translations of The Lion in Love; The Sun and the Frogs; The Bird Wounded by an Arrow; FG; and The Animals Sick of the Plague. Those translations are given in pure text form on the two pages following the title-page. I could not locate an online performance. I did locate a CD at Boston Conservatory Alphin Library.
