Abstract: en_US This is a derivative but lovely book. Its eighty-one gravures from the eighteenth century La Fontaine en Estampes seem to be mostly details from Oudry. That is certainly the case on 9 (DW) and 59 (SS). They suffer only from their relatively small size of 2.5 x 3.5. To them is added the series of smaller drawings from a fourteenth-century manuscript, either identical with or reproduced from those in Fables Inédites des XIIe, XIIIe et XIVe Siècles et Fables de la Fontaine of 1825 by A.C.M. Robert. The paper has become brittle, and the binding is just starting to separate. The covers are part marble and part leather. AI at the back.
