Abstract

I wonder if I can dare believe that this is a first edition. It has no date. It is inscribed 1873 on the first page. I was lucky to get the book in any case for a rather small bid on eBay. Mrs. Prosser is not in Bodemann. My favorite private collector has one copy of Mrs. Prosser, and that is dated to 1878 and is also from the Religious Tract Society. I count two hundred twenty-one items here. I have read five or six. They remind me of the poorest in the Aesopic collections. That is, they are either belabored or transparent. I did not find among them one where I would say, as I sometimes say with Aesop's, Now there is a story worth remembering! I can find nothing in Fabula Docet, Hobbs, Quinnam, McKendry, or Snodgrass. One on-line source seems to indicate that there might have been a first edition of this book in 1870.
