Abstract

Integrating this book into the collection has brought several ironic twists. I discovered as I first catalogued it that I have it twice. The first irony in that discovery is one I have experienced often: the two books are not the same. A second irony is that the book which I think is older cost $46 less than the more recent one. This edition is, I believe, the more recent of the two. Why did I spend all that money when I could just have waited for the other copy?! Now I have found a second and better copy of the book, which I had apparently on my shelves for four years before I bought the poorer copy; this time the better copy is $20 cheaper than the poorer copy cost! This book has a red cover. Neither the cover nor the pre-title page indicates The Catholic University of America Romance Language Series. As in the other (earlier) copy, we have fifty-one pages of fables, followed by exercises and a vocabulary. Samaniego and Iriarte have the largest shares of the fables. The illustration of MM on 51 still deserves a prize for suggesting weird perspectives.
