Time at Creighton School of Medicine
Following his military service, James B. Williams earned his B.S. in Biochemistry before attending the Creighton University School of Medicine. At Creighton, James was the only Black American medical student in his class, and he continued his commitment to advocacy by protesting the dentistry school's refusal to treat Black patients equitably. This advocacy translated to meaningful change by leading to the admission of Creighton dentistry’s first African American dental student. Inspired to serve, Dr. James Williams continued his education at Creighton and became the school’s first African American surgical resident.
